Carlos Fernández is a visionary food processing Hispanic executive, with demonstrated business acumen built on more than 20 years of experience leading multi-national operations with full P&L responsibility, at the forefront of the plant-based food movement, providing sophisticated solutions to high-level segments of the food & beverage industry. Noted for pioneering and transforming a Liquid Foods business franchise that synergized the Preservation & Filling business with Fruit & Juice businesses, forged acquisitions, actualized business strategies, and drove profitability.
Mr. Fernandez restructured the organization into four key Groups to support future growth and synergize newly acquired businesses. Recent work includes a diversification and expansion strategy to selectively enlarge new business segments, driving the business from $150M to $800M+ through acquisitions, new product development, and organic growth. Completed (9) acquisitions since 2015. These efforts are supported by the development of long-range recommendations to transform the organization around Product Lines with clear manager roles and create business initiatives and to expand multi-cultural hiring into the management team, emphasizing early career potential and talent. Deep knowledge of doing business Latin America and Europe as well as a strong operating background in manufacturing and lean initiatives.
Appointed EVP of the John Bean Technologies Corporation (JBT) and as President, Diversified Food & Health, in August 2017, Mr. Fernandez oversaw Sales and Operations in Florida, California, Wisconsin, Ohio, Virginia, UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil, South Africa, Spain, Mexico, Australia, and Italy. His responsibilities included Management of Strategy, Sales, Marketing, Production, Engineering, Purchasing, Human Resources, R&D, Finance, and Administration. Directed Strategic Plan, Sales and Operations Plan, Leadership Development Plan, and Annual Budgets. Responsibility for nearly 3,200 employees in 18 locations from the Division Headquarters in the Tampa Bay, Florida area.
In October 2022, Mr. Fernandez transitioned to a Corporate role, supporting Strategy and M&A, driving Corporate Sustainability, liaison with key customers on their Sustainability goals to implement NPD and alliances, exploring new Food Technologies, and Deployment of Marketing and Sales plan to offer JBT solutions for end market segments.
From 2005 through 2011, Mr. Fernandez served as General Manager of the Tomato and Fruit business based in Parma, Italy, with FMC Technologies, and continued with JBT Corporation as it was spun-off. In 2012 he was named General Manager, Fruit and Juice Solutions SAYS 2011 IN CV, and in 2014, he was named Vice President and Managing Director of Liquid Food Technologies and elevated to President in 2015.
Mr. Fernandez joined JBT Corporation’s predecessor, FMC Corporation, in 1996 as a Business Analyst Madrid, Spain, and subsequently served in financial roles with FMC Corporation and its successor, FMC Technologies.
Mr. Fernandez holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Business from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and a Law Certificate from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia.
